Man shot in Wallins on Wednesday

On Wednesday at 2:40 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 10 received a call of a shooting at 1427 KY 219 in Wallins.

Preliminary investigation indicates Tommy Shackleford, 26, of Wallins, was inside of a residence with Erica Edens when Brian Owens, 35, made entry into the residence. Owens and Shackleford engaged in a brief altercation before Shackleford pulled a firearm and shot Owens in the midsection.

After being shot, Owens drove himself from the residence and was stopped by KSP Trooper Joey Brigmon on U.S. 119 around Tremont. Brigmon contacted an ambulance for Owens so he could be transported to Harlan ARH.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Owens was flown to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee, for further treatment. No arrests have been made at this time. The case will be presented to the Harlan County Grand Jury.

The case is being investigated by KSP Detective Jim T. Whitaker.
