Local teams compete in Pulaski meet

With a skeleton crew to Somerset due to Saturday’s prom, the Harlan County track team finished 10th in the girls meet and 14th on the boys side at the Lake Cumberland Classic.

Harlan County’s best finish in the meet was a second-place finish by Caitlyn Rice, Leah Taulbee, Emilee Eldridge and Lainey Garrett in the girls freshman 4 x 400-meter relay with a time of 5:33.97. Harlan’s team of Mia Pace, Elizabeth Esan, Lucy Bryson and Emma Owens was third in the same event with a time of 5:34.88.

North Hardin won both the boys and girls meets.

In previously unreported action, the boys and girls squads from HCHS both rolled to fifth-place finishes in an all-comers meet at North Laurel on Tuesday.

Caleb Brock was the lone event winner for the Bears. The sophomore won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:48.22.

Both 4 x 200-meter relay teams took second place. The girls team of Phebe McHargue, K.K. Johnson, Abby Stephens and Hannah Wood posted a time of 1:58.43, while the boys squad of Matt Brown, Hunter Crain, Cameron Smiddy and Tyler Flanary posted a 1:43.35.

Rockcastle County won the girls meet, while Pulaski County claimed the win on the boys side.
