Bears suffer second loss to Letcher

A seven-run second inning against three Harlan County pitchers was enough for Letcher Central to win over the Bears for the second time in a week, pulling away for a 12-5 win Monday in Whitesburg.

Jakob Slone led the Cougars, driving in three runs on two hits. Trevor Hardin also added two hits.

Slone gave up three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Kincer pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings, with four strikeouts and one walk, to earn the win.

Garry Henson led Harlan County’s five-hit attack with two singles. Justin Brown, Tyler Casolari and Nathan Shepherd added one single each.

Quinton Boggs started on the mound for the Bears and gave up two runs on one hit and three walks. Jordan Steele allowed five runs on one hit and two walks. Jonathan Wilder gave up four runs on two hits in one inning. Brayden Blakley allowed one run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Harlan County (2-8) will play at Bell County on Thursday and play the Bobcats at home on Friday.

Letcher Central scored four runs in the fourth and fifth innings on the way to a 10-3 victory on April 9 at Harlan County.

The Cougars capitalized on seven Harlan County errors to score five unearned runs.

Justin Brown, Tyler Casolari, Jonathan Wilder, Quinton Boggs and Brayden Blakley each had one singe for the 2-6 Bears.

Blakley started on the mound and gave up two runs in one inning. Jordan Steele pitched one shutout inning with three strikeouts. Boggs also pitched one shutout inning. Eli Estep and Garry Henson both saw mound action in the fourth inning. Jonathan Wilder gave up four unearned runs in one inning. J Harris allowed one hit in 1 2/3 innings. Nathan Shepherd recorded the final out.

Trevor Hardin and Nick Mason led Letcher with two hits each.

Jakob Slone pitched three innings and allowed two runs. Hardin pitched two shutout innings to earn the win. Gregory Kincer allowed one run in two innings.

Harlan County will play host to Middlesboro on Wednesday and travel to Middlesboro on Thursday.
