Bang the drum slowly as the West burns

As I write this column, I watch events unfurl on television that are totally gut-wrenching. I am sitting here watching Notre Dame cathedral burning. As the day drags on, it could burn to the ground. The cathedral is a symbol, perhaps the premier symbol, of Paris since it dotted the landscape hundreds of years ago.

But, even more important than being a symbol of Paris and thereby France, is how symbolic it is of French Catholicism, Western Civilization and the main ingredient to the mix that created Western Civilization, that of Christianity.

At press time, this is being labeled as an accidental fire. This may or may not change as the days and the investigation continues. That being said, the fire, the extent of the damage, and the cause are doubled as the fire occurred at the beginning of Holy Week for Catholics and other Western Christians began today.

President Trump, doing one of the things he has no equal, ruffled the feathers of the neo-liberal Marxist elites this week when he suggested illegal aliens held in camps be released into sanctuary cities. President Trump’s suggestion that the growing number of illegals in this country be dispersed drew the ire of Democratic politicians, liberal pundits and the coastal elites. Rather notably, actress and musician Cher. She rattled off tweets decrying how unfair such an action would to her city of Los Angeles.

Cher stated that the City of Angels was already overflowing and the many homeless in the city should come first before any more people are sent there. She also opined that funds could be better used on the native population of the city before expending any more on refugees or migrants.

This is a marked change from her public statements and statements on social media from the past. In fact, one tweet suggested that people should take two dreamers into their homes. The cognitive dissonance, the utter hypocrisy and downright stupidity is beyond the pale. I struggle to find any semblance of sense in her statement, common or otherwise.

In fact, the more I think of it the Orwellian term double-speak comes to mind. It actually has come to mind a lot lately. I, for one, support the president’s plan of relocating illegals to the so-called sanctuary cities. I actually support deportations, both more of them and more hastily ones. That doesn’t seem to be coming anytime soon, so we’ll go with what we can get.

So, let’s make those who talk the talk then walk the walk. I feel that most lefties will make the same abrupt about face as Cher did when faced with something they are appallingly unfamiliar with — reality.
