LEXINGTON, Ky. (KT) – Kentucky appears to have added a graduate transfer to the roster for a second consecutive season.
Bucknell’s Nate Sestina, 22, announced his decision to commit to UK by Twitter on Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-9, 245-pound power forward will graduate Bucknell this spring. He averaged 15.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, shot 38 percent from the 3-point line and 81.8 percent on free throws.
Sestina, who visited UK’s campus earlier this week, was a second-team All-Patriot League selection. He played only four games in his first season due to injury and will use the extra year of eligibility to finish at UK.
“It’s been an amazing ride from Emporium to Bucknell and everywhere in between, and it’s surreal to think my college basketball career isn’t over yet,” Sestina said in a tweet. “I’m humbled to get started with (Kentucky basketball)! Need to thank God, my family, my coaches, teammates and (John Calipari)#BBN.”
UK can make no comment until all paperwork is received.
Last season, Stanford graduate Reid Travis make a huge impact on Kentucky’s 30-7 season that ended with a 77-71 overtime loss to Auburn in the Midwest Region championship game.
