Redskins rally for win over Harlan

Cumberland rallied from a 7-0 deficit to edge Harlan 12-10 in middle school baseball action.

Shawn Carroll pitched four hitless innings in relief, with five strikeouts and four walks, to earn the victory. Patrick Mandrell started on the mound for the Skins. Nazareth Sanchez pitched two innings with two strikeouts and four walks.

Mandrell led Cumberland at the plate with two doubles. Sanchez added two singles.

Tristan West, Donovan Montanaro and Aiden Johnson had singles for Harlan. Montanaro scored three runs, while West and Johnson scored two each.

Donovan Montanaro walked five and struck out one in two innings. Nate Montanaro struck out one and walked three in one-third of an inning. West struck out three and walked two in 2 2/3 innings.

Cumberland also rallied from an early deficit against Jenkins before falling 7-6 in a five-inning game.

Jesse Franks, Carroll and Sanchez led the Redskins with two singles each. Mandrell added one single.

Tyler Lunsford struck out three and walked four in 2 1/3 innings. Carroll struck out two and walked none in 2 2/3 innings on the mound.

Montanaro leads Dragons in season opener

Harlan opened its middle school baseball season with a 15-5 loss to Pineville.

Donovan Montanaro led the Dragons with two doubles, along with an RBI and run scored. Tristan West and Will Cassim each added singles. West scoed two runs, while Cameron Maples and Aiden Johnson scored one each.

Jared Moor started on the mound for Harlan and struck out three and walked none in two innings. West struck out five and walked one in two innings. Baylor Varner walked six as he also saw action on the mound.
