A woman was flown out Thursday after her car flipped over a guardrail off U.S. 421 beside BP gas station.

Thomas Doan, of Cumberland, was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger when he entered the bypass from Central Street and struck the Chevy Cavalier driven by Roberta Miracle, of Harlan.

Witnesses say Miracle lost control of the car after being hit. She struck the curb and flipped across the guardrail, striking two parked cars on Elm Street.

The driver’s daughter told Harlan City Police Department Chief Mike Thomas and officer Derrick Noe that her mother was borrowing her car at the time of the accident.

Noe said the woman was extracted from the overturned car with the help of the Harlan City Fire Department. Noe added she was immediately flown to Holston Valley Medical Center from the Harlan High School football field but that he does not know the extent of her injuries.

Others responding to the accident include Kentucky State Police, Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, Harlan County Emergency Management, Loyall Police Department and Trans Star Ambulance Service.

The accident remains under investigation by Noe.
