Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) has named its Students of the Month for January
Charles “Chuck” Gibbons was chosen as Student of the Month for the Harlan campus. Gibbons says that he “overcame many obstacles to get to where I am today and Southeast has helped me.” He chose Southeast because if our selection of “trades” in addition to “the people and the atmosphere.” Chuck is enrolled in the Paths 2 Promise (P2P) program.
The Student of the Month for the Cumberland campus was Heather Rene Smith. Smith plans to apply to the Radiography program this spring. She says, “If all goes well and I get accepted into the Radiography program, my anticipated graduation date will be May 2021 with 3 degrees!” Heather has enjoyed a long history with the college. “While I was growing up, I attended various events held on campus. When it came time for me to enroll into college after obtaining my GED through the Adult Education Program, choosing Southeast was an automatic decision,” she says. She also hopes to provide a better life for her son. “With Southeast,” she says, “the sky is the limit!”
Each SKCTC campus has a Student of the Month selection committee appointed by its campus director. In making its choice, the committee weighs criteria such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, work ethic, helpfulness to others, and whether the student has had to overcome significant barriers in achieving academic success.
