Harlan hangs on to defeat Barbourville

Harlan outscored the host Barbourville Lady Tigers 13-5 in the second quarter to build a seven-point halftime lead on the way to a 47-43 win Thursday.

Senior guard Payeton Charles scored 17 points to lead the 8-20 Lady Dragons. Savanna Smith and Ella Karst added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Junior guard Abba Smith led the 4-24 Lady Tigers with 23 points. Bre Gallagher added 10.

Harlan closes its regular season schedule Friday at home against Corbin.

Barbourville edged the Lady Dragons 41-40 in junior varsity action as Aimee Woolum led the Lady Tigers with 11 points. Aubrey Woolum scored eight, followed by Natalie Fisher with seven, Grace Jones with six, Bre Gallagher with five and Abby Gray with four.

Angel Wynn scored 19 to lead the 8-5 Lady Dragons. Raegan Jones added 11 points. Emma Owens and Aymanni Wynn scored four each. Makayla Sizemore added two.
