JACES, Rosspoint advance to county finals

James A. Cawood and Rosspoint survived close calls in the semifinals Tuesday at James A. Cawood to earn spots in Thursday’s seventh- and eighth-grade county championship game.
The top-seeded Trojans led Cumberland by only two going into the fourth quarter before pulling away for a 38-31 win.
Cameron Lester scored 14 to lead a balanced JACES attack that also included 13 points from Nathan Daniels and 10 from Jeremiah Clem.
Jonah Swanner led the Redskins with 18 points.
Rosspoint won a 60-58 double-overtime thriller over Wallins as Cooper McHargue poured in 21 points and Thomas Jordan added 18 for the Wildcats.
Wallins was led by Daniel Carmical with 23 points. Tanner Griffins cored 17 and Cadyn Duncan added 10.
Rosspoint will play JACES on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Harlan County High School in the championship game. Wallins will take on Cumberland at 5:30 for third place.
