HYDEN — The Harlan Green Dragons improved to 5-0 against the 14th Region with an 84-74 victory Monday at Leslie County.
Trailing 60-58 entering the fourth quarter, the Dragons used a 14-4 run to open the period and never looked back.
“We got some stops and got to the free throw line to give us the lead,” said Harlan coach Derrick Akal. “I thought we could’ve done better at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.”
Harlan hit 11 of 18 free throws in the final period and finished the game by hitting 21 of 31 at the line.
Senior guards Jared Hawkins and Kilian Ledford scored 30 and 25 points, respectively, for the Green Dragons. Jordan Akal followed with 12 points. Jon Eldridge added 11.
Sophomore guard Trent Day powered the Eagles with 29 points. Wyatt Hensley, an eighth-grade guard, fired in 21 points. Alex Farler scored 13.
“Leslie County came to play tonight,” said Akal. “They gave a good effort.”
