SKCTC names Students of the Month for December

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) has named its Students of the Month for December 2018: Anthony Caldwell, Harlan campus; Brittany Russell, Cumberland campus; Stacie Hembree, Pineville campus; Brenna Voges, Middlesboro campus; and Sierra Lynn-Ann Sturdivant, Whitesburg campus.
Anthony Caldwell, a U.S. (active) Army veteran, is a full-time student and father of four who was just accepted into the Medical Assisting Program on the Harlan campus. He says, “After visiting the Harlan campus, I was overwhelmed by the welcoming atmosphere and the assistance that I was offered. I am able to work and attend school close to home to be there with my wife and four children. I am forever grateful.”
Prior to enrolling as a student on the Cumberland campus, Brittany Russell, of Harlan, earned her GED. She is currently pursuing an Associate of Science degree, and she says she chose Southeast because “it’s in my hometown. It’s a great place to go to college, and it has amazing professors.”
A second-year respiratory care student, Stacie Hembree chose Southeast for the location and affordability and because it offered a program in her chosen career. “Southeast was the best decision I could have ever made for myself and my family,” says Hembree.
A freshman with plans to pursue a degree in speech pathology, Brenna Voges also appreciates the convenience of Southeast. “Not only does it provide me with the benefit of going to school while living at home, but it also has provided me the opportunity to work toward my future career,” she says.
Sierra Lynn-Ann Sturdivant is pursuing an associate in science degree on the Whitesburg campus. She says she chose Southeast “because the campus is literally at my doorstep, and everyone here is willing to help with anything you have questions about.”
Each SKCTC campus has a Student of the Month selection committee appointed by its campus director. In making its choice, the committee weighs criteria such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, work ethic, helpfulness to others, and whether the student has had to overcome significant barriers in achieving academic success.
