Overcoming our fear with the truth

Published 6:29 am Sunday, December 16, 2018

In moments of panic, we need to search for the truth. When our world seems to be spinning out of control it can be very hard to pause, take a deep breath, and evaluate things from a godly perspective.

The enemy loves to get us in a place of fear and uncertainty. He wants us to spin out of control in the tidal wave of panic that he has created. When the panic and fear comes upon us we need to read God’s word and remember His promises. God does not give us the spirit of fear. Sometimes, all that I need to do to calm my anxious and fearful heart is to breathe deeply and repeat these scriptures.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

John 14:27 (KJV)

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Once I’m able to calm my fearful thoughts, then I’m able to see the situation with clarity. The enemy uses fear to attack us. If he can create enough fear in our minds, then we start doubting God’s power and ability to help us. Fear magnifies our problems and makes them seem so much worse than what they really are. Faith, however, has the opposite effect.

When the troubles strike in my life, if I can find a quiet place to pray and talk it over with my Lord, then He will help me to see the situation as it is, not how I perceive it to be. Feeling the presence of the Lord calms me. It reminds me that He can handle whatever problem that might arise for me.

God is always in control. He knows what will happen before it happens. We need to take comfort in knowing that He loves us and that He will always do what is best for us. Worrying and fretting over things beyond our control only steals our peace. But it does not help the situation at all. Prayers to our all-powerful, mighty God can change things.

Therefore, let us go to Him and take it all to Him in prayer. Let’s place our burdens at the feet of Jesus and trust Him to take care of it all. Remember dear friends that we are the beloved children of God and it is His pleasure to help us. We have victory in Jesus!
