Christy Blevins from the Bell County Extension Office conducted a program called LEAPS for the Lone Jack School Center’s preschool and kindergarten students in October in collaboration with the Lone Jack FRYSC. Blevins read the students a book, Smelly Ghosts, and did an activity to go along with the story. Kindergartners used Clementine oranges and celery sticks to make small edible pumpkins. Preschoolers made ghosts with white cheese sticks wrapped in plastic and drew eyes on them with markers.
Terri Jackson from Southeast Kentucky Community & TechnicalCollege collaborated with Lone Jack School Center’s FRYSC to allow their nursing students to conduct a hygiene program in October with sixth-graders. Each nursing student presented their own lesson on a specific body part. They taught students how to properly care for their personal hygiene and also informed students about the nursing career. At the end of the class, there was a questions and answers session. Students were given hygiene items to take home with them.
