Fast start sends Rosspoint to win at Evarts

With a strong defensive effort leading to numerous transition buckets, Rosspoint built a double-digit lead in the first quarter on the way to a 59-43 win Thursday at Evarts in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Thomas Jordan scored 20 points to lead the 4-2 Wildcats. Connor Blevins and Cooper McHargue added 11 each.

Chuckie Blackshire paced Evarts with 13 points.

Brody Napier scored 17 points, all in the first half, as Rosspoint won 54-38 in fifth- and sixth-grade action. Jayce Brown added 11 points.

Ashton Sizemore scored 17 and Benjamin Coleman added 14.

Rosspoint plays at Union College on Saturday. Evarts travels to Cawood on Tuesday.

Swanner leads Skins to a victory over Green Hills

Jonah Swanner poured in 16 points as Cumberland (4-1) rolled past visiting Green Hills 36-9 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.

Dylan Simpson paced Green Hills with five points.

Aiden Craig led Cumberland to a 23-5 win in the fifth – and sixth-grade game with an 11-point performance.

Ethan Huff scored three to lead the Falcons.

Cumberland will travel to Wallins on Tuesday. Green Hills will play host to James A. Cawood on Monday.

Cawood wins when Black Mountain drops to 3 players

Tied at 40-40 with visiting Cawood on Thursday, Black Mountain forfeited after losing its second player to fouls, leaving them with only three players.

Black Mountain coach Glenn Ford said it was his understanding that teams with only three players left were forced to forfeit.

Dylan Hicks scored 17 points and Skylar Lorenz added 14 for the Comets.

Zack Burgan led Cawood with 22 points. Gabe O’Rourke scored 14.

Black Mountain had nine players on its roster, but two were suspended, one was injured and one left the team during the game.

Reggie Cottrell scored 14 points to lead Black Mountain to a 35-29 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Cawood plays host to Evarts on Tuesday. Black Mountain travels to Harlan on Monday.

Nathan Daniels scored 15 points as James A. Cawood won an early-season showdown at Rosspoint on Tuesday with a 33-29 victory in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Cooper McHargue led Rosspoint with 15 points.

Rosspoint coasted to a 57-26 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Brett Wes Johnson scored 16, Brody Napier tossed in 15 and Blake Hensley added 12 to lead the Wildcats.

Kaden Jones scored eight for the Trojans.

Rosspoint defeated Cawood 37-9 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Napier led the Wildcats with 16 points.

Adam Grubbs paced Cawood with five points.

Issac Kelly scored 10 as Rosspoint won 41-21 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game.

Dylan Hicks led the Comets with 11 points.

Carmical leads Purple Devils as they sweep past Wildcats

Led by 13 points from eighth-grade guard Daniel Carmical, Wallins rolled past visiting Evarts 58-15 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Tuesday.

Wallins won 46-33 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Ethan Simpson scored 14 to lead the Devils. Hunter Napier and Trenton Cole added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Benjamin Coleman paced Evarts with 11 points.

Evarts will be at home against Rosspoint on Thursday. Wallins travels to James A. Cawood on Thursday.
