HCHS, Harlan runners compete in area meets
The Harlan County elementary and middle school teams closed the season Saturday at the KTCCCA Meet of Champions in Lexington.
In the elementary race, Dashaun Smith was the Bears’ top finisher, coming in 207th with a time of 13:38.56. Bradley Brock (14:04.35) was 255th. On the girls side, Kaydie Coots was 368th with a time of 18:08.56.
Harlan County also had participants in the girls middle school race. Haylee Couch finished 344th with a time of 22:47.31, followed by Taylor Clark (389th, 25:37.18).
The varsity squad returns to action Saturday at Wayne County in the Class 3A Region 7 championship meet.

The Harlan varsity results were inadvertently omitted from an earlier report about the Southeastern Kentucky Conference championship meet.
On the boys side, Charles David Morton finished 35th with a time of 22:30.46. In the girls race, Lucy Bryson was ninth with a time of 24:52.22, while Ella Morton (27:12.31) finished 19th.

Green Dragons open season with a sweep of Middlesboro
Harlan opened its middle school schedule with a pair of wins Monday over visiting Middlesboro.
Trent Noah and Matthew Pennington each scored eight points as Harlan won 34-24 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game.
Maddox Huff poured in 23 points as Harlan won 34-20 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Balanced attack carries Rosspoint past Green Hills in closing game
Rosspoint closed its regular-seasons schedule with a 33-6 win Thursday over Green Hills.
Jenna Wilson, Lindsey Hall and Chloe Shelton each scored seven points to lead the Lady Cats.
Mallory Long scored 10 as Rosspoint won 32-6 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
