Man faces meth charge

A Baxter man is facing charges including trafficking methamphetamine after police allegedly found him in possession of the drug.

Jason Haynes, 37, was arrested on Oct. 11 by Kentucky State Police Trooper D. Lowe.

According to the citation, police were traveling on Slicky Ridge Road in order to locate Haynes while investigating a possible burglary when they made contact with him. Lowe asked for consent to search, which Haynes granted. Police located suspected methamphetamine and two syringes on Haynes’ person, as well as multiple pills suspected to be buprenorphine. Haynes was placed in the back of the police cruiser and driven to a residence. At the residence, police spoke with Haynes’ parents, who gave consent to search. Police located a large amount of suspected methamphetamine during the search.

Haynes was charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, first- and second-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $5,000 full cash bond.

In other police activity:

• Marco Hopkins, 37, of Harlan, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brandon Burton on Oct. 10. He was charged with second-degree burglary and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

• Kelly Hoskins, 32, was arrested on an indictment warrant by Harlan City Police Officer George Young on Oct. 9. She was indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment, and two counts of fourth-degree assault. Hoskins was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
