Musette initiation, induction of officers conducted

The Harlan Musettes Initiation ceremony was held at Harlan Baptist Church. The choir initiated six new members and inducted officers for the 2018-19 year.

Musical selections presented by the initiates were “Music Changes Everything,” “Wherever I Go” and “I’ll Make the Difference.”

“Once a Musette, Always a Musette” was the theme for initiation. Each new member was presented a silk yellow rosebud and pearl earrings from their big sister.

New members are: Lily Dickenson, Maleah Doss, Elizabeth Esan, Emma Eversole, Emilee Howard, and Makenna Jackson. Megan Pacholewski also received a yellow rosebud. She has been in Musettes since the second semester of last year and was not initiated. She is a senior this year and is also an officer.

Alumnae moms at initiation that had Miss Schraeder as a director are: Kim Blanton, Michelle Doss, Jessica VanWinkle and Missy Witt.

Clara Atkins-Pope, assistant-director/accompanist, is also a Musette alumna, and had Miss Schraeder as a director.

New officers inducted were Courtney Cozart, president; Emersyn Noah, vice-president; Lauren Nunez, secretary; Kaycee Blanton, treasurer; Abigail Baker, I Soprano section leader; Megan Pacholewski, II Soprano section leader; Maddie Epperson, Alto section leader; Makenna Doss, Librarian, and Abbi Witt, historian and pictorial manager.

After the induction ceremony, Stacy Noah read the 2017-18 vice-president’s note from Brooklyn Collins, and presented Emersyn with the vice-president’s book; Courtney received the president’s book after her mom, Renee Freeman-McQueen, read the 2017-18 president’s note from Mackenzie King.

The officers sang ”You Are the Music in Me” before forming the traditional friendship circle. Marilyn Unthank, who became a member of the Musettes in 1945, shared some encouraging words before the Musettes sang “Candle on the Water” and “May the Light of Christ” in the candlelit circle.
