A Harlan man was sentenced to eight years in prison recently in Harlan Circuit Court for drug trafficking.

Christopher C. Yount, 28, appeared in front of Harlan Circuit Court Judge Kent Hendrickson for sentencing in November. Commonwealth’s Attorney Parker Boggs and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Jonathan Lee handled the case for the state. Yount was represented by his attorney Michael Ingram.

According to the final judgment order, Yount was sentenced after entering pleas of guilty on three separate indictments containing a total of three counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and one count of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance. Yount entered pleas of guilty to the indictments on Nov. 2 in Harlan Circuit Court.

The indictments stem from incidents occurring from July 2, 2012 until July 12, 2012.

According to the indictments, Yount sold or transferred cocaine on July 12, 2012 and July 9, 2012. He sold or transferred heroin and hydrocodone on July 2, 2012. The three indictments were each handed down by the grand jury on May 20, 2013.

Hendrickson sentenced Yount to a total of eight years in prison for three counts of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and one count of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance. Yount was also ordered to pay a total of $620 in restitution to Kentucky State Police Post 10 within 180 days of his release, payable through the Harlan Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. The order also stipulates Yount will not move for shock probation.

Following sentencing, Hendrickson remanded Yount into custody to begin his sentence.
