Every year since 2013, country music artist Brooklyhn Woods has spearheaded a benefit concert, Brooklyhn’s Blankets, to benefit people in need.

The 5th Annual Brooklyhn’s Blankets Christmas Benefit Concert is set for Dec. 16t at 5:30 p.m. at the Betty Howard Coal Miner’s Memorial Theater in Benham.

“I’ve always felt compelled to give back to the community that has given so much to me, including family, friends, mountain memories, and a place to always call home,” Woods said. “I decided back in 2013 that I wanted to do more. I wanted to intertwine my love for music and the magic of Christmas and help my community in a unique way.”

The concert always features an array of performers, and this year is no different.

Scheduled performers so far include Woods, Brooklyn Collins, Makenna Jackson, Justin Taylor, Whitney Marshall, Shaylyn Fairchild, Mt. Sinia Spirituals, Tri- City Ensemble and the Tri-City Youth Choir. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.

Woods explained her reasons for Brooklyhn’s Blankets starts with children.

“I decided that I wanted to help children have a warmer holiday season,” Woods said. “The Brooklyhn’s Blankets charity has grown to become something bigger than I could’ve ever imagined.”

Woods said the charity has been able to touch the lives of over 20,000 people over the last four years with the help of local support as well as sponsors from miles away.

“It has been an incredible blessing to be able to sing with some amazing talents and work with the most wonderful souls, all for a common goal,” Woods said. “What started out as an idea, manifested into something beyond my wildest dreams. We are so excited to keep the tradition alive in 2017!”

Admission to the concert is a new blanket or monetary donation. Leading up to the concert, Blankets can be dropped off at Family Hair Care in Cumberland, Lamphouse Coffee in Lynch and Jewelcraft Jewelers in Harlan. Monetary donations can be made at any BB&T bank under Brooklyhn’s Blankets.

“This year’s concert will be held in loving memory of Anthony Kyle, a dear friend, a kind soul, and a faithful supporter of Brooklyhn’s Blankets from the very beginning,” Woods said.
