Barbourville downs Dragons despite 29 points from Huff

Barbourville capitalized on a big night at the free throw line, hitting 14 of 26 compared to one of four for visiting Harlan (1-3) as the Tigers won 39-35 in seventh- and eight-grade basketball action.

Jackson Huff scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Dragons.

Harlan improved to 4-0 in fifth- and sixth-grade action with a 55-20 win. Maddox Huff scored 17 for the Dragons, while Trent Noah and WIll Cassim contributed 13 points each.

Grade school tournament set for Saturday at HCHS

The 4th Annual Preseason Tournament is set for the following two Saturdays at Harlan County High School.

Wallins will open the fifth- and sixth-grade tournament on Saturday against Cumberland at 10 a.m. Green Hills will play James A. Cawood at 11, followed by Rosspoint taking on Evarts at noon and Black Mountain playing Cawood at 1 p.m. The semifinals are set for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the championship game to follow.

The seventh- and eighth-grade tournament is set for Nov. 18 at HCHS. Wallins will play Cumberland at 10 a.m., followed by James A. Cawood vs Black Mountain, Cawood vs Green Hills and Rosspoint vs Evarts. The semifinals will begin at 2 p.m. with the championship game set for 4 p.m.
