An alleged homeless couple were arrested on Monday night by Kentucky State Police Det. Josh Howard after Post 10 received a call requesting a a trooper for a referral through social services. The call was in reference to a couple living in a tent on a mountainside outside of Pineville just off of KY 66. Once there, the police said they found a fetus in box.

The citations, prepared by Howard, states that KSP Trooper Joey Brigmon responded to assist at the scene. Upon arrival at the site they learned of a possible miscarriage at the site a day prior. The couple, identified as Mary Rachel Brock, 33, of Pathfork and her husband, Tinsely Brock, 41, of Pineville, had been living in a tent for about five months.

“I was dispatched to investigate the possible remains of the miscarriage,” Howard stated in the citation. “Deputy Coroner Jason Steele and I located a white box with what appeared to be remains of a miscarriage at the tent site. The deputy coroner took possession of the remains. The campsite appeared to be very nasty with trash and feces in the area, with strong odor of human waste at the site.”

Howard said the Brocks were transported to Pineville Police Department for interviews. A 2-year-old at the site was placed into custody of family members.

Bell County Coroner Jay Steele said in an interview Tuesday that the miscarriage was natural and that there was no foul play involved.

“We contacted the forensic pathologist in Frankfort who does our autopsies and confirmed with them…under the circumstances and based on the evidence, it was determined to be a natural loss,” Jay Steele said.

Regarding if the couple sought medical help, Jay Steele said they went to the Pineville hospital to get help.

“They (the Brocks) said they were going to bury the fetus, and they had it in a box…there was nothing intentionally done to harm the fetus,” Jay Steele said.

Steele also noted that the fetus will be buried and that a small casket will be donated by the funeral home for the burial. Services will also be provided.

Mary and Tinsely Brock were both arrested on a charge of endangering the welfare of a minor due to the living conditions of their 2-year-old son. They were also each served with a bench warrant for failure to appear on older cases. They are being held in the Bell County Detention Center.

The Pineville City Police Department also assisted.
