Davis faces theft-related charge

An Evarts man is facing a charge of receiving stolen property after allegedly being found in possession of stolen items including a television.

Oma Davis, 42, was arrested on Saturday by Kentucky State Police Trooper Sydney Wagner.

According to the citation, police received a complaint that a residence had been broken into and a small Black and Decker refrigerator valued at $160 and a 42-inch television valued at $600 had been taken. The owner of the items advised police his grandson had stolen the property. Through further investigation, Wagner located Davis. Davis stated an individual had brought the items to his residence. Davis then moved the items across the street to an apartment building, where they were located and returned to the owner.

Davis was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

In other police activity:

• Charles E. Harris, 20, was arrested on an indictment warrant on Sunday by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Saylor. Harris was indicted for first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

• Shawn Vick, 27, of Evarts, was arrested on an indictment warrant by Wagner on Friday. Vick was indicted for third-degree burglary, flagrant non-support and first-degree criminal mischief. He was also served with warrants for failure to appear, non-payment of fines and contempt of court. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
