Turner, Kirby lead Tigerettes to a victory over Lady Cats

Hannah Turner and Isabell Kirby each scored nine points as Black Mountain won 31-23 on Thursday at Rosspoint in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Hailey Austin scored 19 to lead Rosspoint.

Brianna Howard scored seven points to lead Rosspoint to a 24-17 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Black Mountain defeated Wallins 28-20 on Tuesday at Black Mountain. Turner led the Tigerettes with nine points.

Taytum Griffin poured in 17 for the Lady Devils.

Wallins won 28-11 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Faith Caldwell led Wallins with 11 points.

Shaylea Lewis scored eight for Black Mountain.

County tournament opening Saturday at James A. Cawood

The county fifth- and sixth-grade tournament will open Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School with four first-round games. The schedule includes: 10 a.m. — Cawood vs Green Hills; 11:30 a.m. — Wallins vs Rosspoint; 1 p.m. — Evarts vs Cumberland; 2:30 p.m. — James A. Cawood vs Black Mountain.
