‘Swappin’ — Bear Festival’ begins Friday

The Kingdom Come Swappin’ Meetin’ and Kentucky Black Bear Festival #swappinbear will take place on Oct. 6 & 7 on the Southeast Community and Technical College Cumberland Campus, in Cumberland.

The festival will begin on Friday morning at 8:30 and there will be something for everyone. 4-H will host kid’s games, the STEM program which is an educational program for students will be there on Friday, and there will be many demonstrators both days. ARH will host a free Health Fair on (Friday only), partnering with the UK Markey Cancer Center, the Kentucky Cancer Project, and the KCTCS Nursing Program.

Friday evening come and glow with us at the annual 5-K GLOW RUN that will take place Friday evening at 7 p.m. in front of the Godbey Building. Also if you have a competitive nature don’t forget to enter the photo contest, the pickles, jams and jellies contest, and the youth storytelling contest.

The festival will also host craft, retail and food booths as well as train rides from the Harlan County Rotary Club, and rides for all ages from Derby City Amusements on Friday and Saturday. Come and check out the beautiful Quilt Exhibit, and Student and Adult Art Exhibits. Meade Tractor will be hosting free hay rides on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Live music will take place on two stages this year one outside overlooking our vendor location and one inside the Black Box Theater. Our Main Stage Entertainment for Friday evening will be inside the Black Box Theater with Adam, Aaron & Amanda Crabb beginning at 6 p.m. Outside on Friday evening there will be a Sorghum Stir Off concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. with Amethyst Kiah, Brett Ratliff and Rich Kirby.

Saturday Evenings Main Stage Entertainment, also inside the Black Box Theater will be Sunrise Ridge and The Newtown Bluegrass Band. There will be a great variety of gospel, country, rock, and folk music throughout the festival. So much to do in just two days!
