With two touchdowns coming through the air, two on the ground and two points on defense, the Harlan County Black Bears found balanced in a 28-8 junior varsity win Monday at Knox Central.

“We played really well tonight. Our offensive line got the job done and we were able to run the ball efficiently and throw when we needed to,” Harlan County coach Matt Duckworth said. “The defense played great and we didn’t have any turnovers. I was proud of our team tonight.”

Harlan County marched 60 yards on its opening drive as Tyler Casolari and Ben Landis took turns carrying the ball before quarterback Jay Harris found Matt Brown for a 15-yard pass that set up a 5-yard touchdown run by Landis. Casolari added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

After a four-and-out on defense, the Bears drove for another score as Harris teamed with Brown again, this time for a 15-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Harris had a 10-yard pass to tight end Hunter Helton on the third scoring drive, then found Jacob Bailey for a 10-yard scoring strike.

The Bears added a safety on a bad snap for a 22-0 halftime lead.

Knox Central scored after a 50-yard drive to open the second half, but Harlan County answered with a 70-yard march. Casolari went in from the 3 to close the scoring.

Harlan County improved to 5-1 with the win and will host a playoff game on Monday against Knox Central.
