North, Lunsford power JACES past Tigerettes

Keely North scored 17 points and Taylor Lunsford added 12 as visiting James A. Cawood (11-1) claimed a 37-27 win Thursday at Black Mountain in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Hannah Turner led the Tigerettes with 11 points.

Ella Karst scored 12 and Skyler Shepherd added 11 as the 12-1 Trojanettes rolled to a 35-10 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Hannah Kirby paced Black Mountain with four points.

Black Mountain won 3-2 in a fourth-grade game.

The two teams play again on Tuesday at James A. Cawood.

Evarts holds off Cawood for its 11th straight victory

Evarts survived one of its toughest tests in what is now an 11-game winning streak to open the season. Jaylin Smith scored 21 points and Alexis Branson added 12 as the Lady Cats won 52-42 on Thursday at Cawood.

Lauren Smith led the Lady Comets with 21 points.

Kylie Noe scored 22 points and Abbi Fields added 17 as Cawood rolled to a 50-20 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Drucilla Brown led Evarts with seven points.

Cawood plays host to Green Hills on Thursday. Evarts will be at home against Wallins on Tuesday.

Taytum Griffin led the Lady Devils with 20 points.
