Cumberland lost a pair of hard-fought games Saturday at home against visiting Perry Central in middle school football action.

Brayden Blakley threw four touchdown passes as the Redskins fell 46-30 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game. Jaedyn Gist had three touchdown catches and Simmons added one.

Perry Central won 34-32 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Gage Feltner had a touchdown and two-point conversion to give the Commodores an early 18-0 lead.

Cumberland then reeled off 18 straight points.

Cameron Anderson had a 50-yard touchdown run with 4:07 left in the second quarter to pull the Skins within two. Darius Akal put Cumberland ahead with a 35 yards TD run with 2:59 to play in the half for a 12-8 lead. Dionta Long teamed with Anderson for a 70-yard scoring pass with 45 seconds left in the half.

Phoenix Eddington ran 19 yards for a touchdown and Feltner followed with the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 18-16.

Long teamed with Anderson for a 40-yard touchdown with 28 seconds left in the third quarter. Long added the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 26-16.

Hayden Canady found Marcus Robinson for a 45-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Feltner added a 4-yard touchdown run.

Evarts will play New Harlan on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Coal Miners Memorial Stadium in the first round of the fifth-and sixth-grade county playoffs. The winner will play Cumberland on Saturday at 4:30. Cumberland will New Harlan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the seventh- and eighth-grade playoffs. The winner will play Evarts at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in the championship game.

The Harlan Green Dragons split two games Saturday at Williamsburg, falling 32-16 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game.

Luke Carr rushed for 72 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown to lead Harlan. Cade Middleton completed three of six passes for 20 yards and added 47 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Donovan Montanaro ran for a two-point conversion. Evan Browning caught a pass from Middleton for the other two-point conversion.

West led the defense with eight tackles.

“I am proud of the way these boys played today. They showed a lot of heart and some determination. There was no lack of effort,” Harlan coach Chris Thompson said. “I have been down her to play Williamsburg quite a few times with more talented teams and had leads and seemed to lose them for lack of effort in the second half. For a team with 14 players and no subs on the line, I think these boys did a daggone good job. You take two mental errors on defense and it’s a whole new game.”

Harlan rolled to a 44-0 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Nate Montanaro ran for 127 yards on eight carries, with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Colby Johnson completed all four of his passes for 70 yards, with one touchdown and one two-point conversion. Daven Johnson had one touchdown catch for 50 yards and one rushing touchdown for eight yards. Aiden Johnson had a pair of two-point conversions and Vincent Smith added one.

Will Cassim led the Harlan defense with tackles and a fumble recovery. Noah Kirby also had a fumble recovery. Colby Johnson had three tackles and a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown. Dylan Cox returned an interception 60 yards.

“I’m really proud of the younger guys,” Thompson said. “Everybody got to see a lot of action and we had some great play on the line of scrimmage, especially the defensive ends. They did a good job of containing the outside, and the defensive backs were playing their responsibilities.”

Harlan returns to action Tuesday at home against Lynn Camp, with the fifth- and sixth-grade game starting at 5 p.m.
