Harper, other musicians featured at Big Stone Celtic Festival

A Scottish harper and other musicians will take the stage Sept. 22 as part of the Big Stone Celtic Festival.

Internationally-known harper and composer William Jackson, a major force in Scottish music for many years, and additional musicians will be sponsored by Pro-Art Association at the Goodloe Center, Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap. Admission is free. Students at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise are eligible for cultural credit for attendance.

As a founding member of the band Ossian (1976-1989) Jackson was part of the revival of traditional music in Scotland in the 1970s and 1980s. He became known as an innovative composer, using a mix of traditional and classical music.
